Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Music Festival 2026
Gosforth Civic Theatre, 29th May, Gosforth Civic Theatre, Newcastle
Co-sponsored by Indriya

Pandit Bhimsen Joshi Music Festival was held on 26th May in front of a packed Gosforth Civic Theatre. It was a joyous celebration starting with Raag Yaman presented by Panditji's own disciple Dr Vijay Rajput accompanied by a stellar cast of musicians - Pt Sanju Sahai (Tabla), Satwinder Pal Singh (Sarangi), David Clarke (Harmonium) and Jay Rajput (Vocal). This was followed by a hori sung by Dr Rajput accompanied by Jaymini Sahai who demonstrated the bhav (emotion) in Kathak style. After the interval there were several shorter vocal items by Dr Rajput ending with the bhajan "Jo Bhaje" with which Pandit Bhimsen Joshi often ended his own concerts. Interspersed with the vocal pieces were a scintillating tabla solo performance by Pandit Sanju Sahai and a classical Kathak dance performance by Jaymini Sahai. The evening was made special by an appreciative audience who were clearly entertained by the varied performances of the evening.
